Jesmond Dene

Marc Fenwick, Joy Fenwick, Emma Moir, Alan Wallace, Sparrow Morley & Rob Kirtley lined up to take part in the third race of 4 of the Jesmond Dene Handicap Races this evening. All TBH runners crossed the line within a minute of each other

Conditions were ‘warm’ and a definite feeling of summer is just around the corner as our Tyne Bridge Harriers set off in their allocated handicapped time in a smaller than usual field of 53 runners. Joy Fenwick being the most heavily penalised after her 3rd placing in the last race. Poor lass had 2 minutes 10 seconds added to her start time.. Joy would have to work hard, and that she did.. with the chance of winning a 2nd bottle of vodka on her mind, Joy powered along the paths of Heaton Park & grabbed a time of 22:57 …despite her great efforts, that voddy was out of reach this time around.

All of our athletes put in great performances on the challenging and ‘undulating’ 5K course. Sparrow Morley made his debut at the Jesmond Dene Races and recorded a superb time of 18:13 finishing just 1 second ahead of club speedster Marc Fenwick who continues to put in amazing times and although he was 4 seconds down on the last race he still recorded the 2nd fastest time of the night with 17:34.. well done Marc !!

Emma Moir was ‘feeling the heat’ as she battled through the course in 23:45. Alan Wallace ran a strong race and was also feeling the warmth of the rays as his time suffered slightly from last race, but put in a sterling effort to finish in 22:46. Rob ‘Shades’ Kirtley managed to knock a hefty 18 seconds off his previous course PB and was first Tyne Bridge Harrier home tonight in 20:13.

Congratulations go to Heaton Harriers’ Mark Likeman, who put in the fastest time of the evening with 17:02 & also to Blaydons Hester Dix who took both fastest Female time of the evening & a new Female course record of 17:49.

Once again.. massive thank you’s go out to everyone who came to support us tonight. Your encouragement was felt and heard by all of us as we ran through the gates of Armstrong Park and then again toward the finish line. It really makes a difference. Thank you !!
