This Saturday, 2nd July, sees the 4th race of the club’s parkrun series.
Currently top of the table is David Appleby, leading the way with 110 points. But with the best 4 results (out of a possible 6) counting towards the final league table, there is still time for members to make a late surge to the top.
Parkrun is a free 5km run – it’s you against the clock – and takes place every Saturday at Newcastle Exhibition Park, starting at 9.00am. You simply need to register on the parkrun website, print off your unique barcode and bring it along to the run. Click on the link below for further details.

how does the point scoring work again
Damn!! I knew somebody would ask that. Here goes…
The series consists of six races, each taking place on the dates shown below, with the best four performances counting towards the final result.
April 2nd
May 7th
June 4th
July 2nd
August 6th
September 3rd
Each competitor will receive 10 points for completing a race (up to a maximum of 40 points) and 5 bonus points will be awarded to any competitor who completes all six races.
The Grand Prix scoring system will use the parkrun ‘Age Grading’ system to determine how well a competitor has performed in each race.
Points will be allocated as follows;
5 pts > 55%
10pts > 60%
15pts > 65%
20pts > 70%
25pts > 75%
30pts > 80%
40pts > 85%
50pts > 90%
so if a competitor recorded an age grading of 77.5% they would receive 25 points.
To stop a competitor from gaining an unfair advantage, only races which place at Newcastle parkrun on the dates shown above will qualify towards the Grand Prix.
DD, my time and points from the last race is missing, there was a problem scanning the barcode, this was sorted later. My time has now been posted on the Parkrun website. Missed 80% by 1 second!
The table has been revised to now show David Appleby as race leader (sorry Tony).
