Saturday saw another fantastic turn-out at Newcastle parkrun, with over 300 runners taking part in the weekly 5k run around Newcastle Town Moor. And with the Great North Run coming up soon, several local club runners were using the event to sharpen their race speed, with Morpeth Harriers’ Ian Hudspith and Chris Sampson both posting sub-16min times.
But the event also saw 59 first timers to parkrun, an absolute amazing figure, and hopefully a sign that the 2012 Olympic Games actually will have a lasting effect on the country and encourage people to take up some form of regular exercise.
