Well, that’s the cross-country season over for another year, and what a season it has been for Tyne Bridge Harriers. The men stormed Division Two, notching five 1st place finishes in the first five fixtures and winning the Division Two title just one year after gaining promotion from Division Three.  And the women weren’t to be out-done either.  After leading Division One after the first couple of events, the ladies eventually finished a respectable 4th place and will be seeking to improve on that next year.

So all in all, a tremendous performance from the club, and every member who took part at some stage of the season is to be congratulated.

And if anyone has wondered why they put themselves through the pain and misery of competing in rain, sleet, snow, strong winds and every other horrendous weather condition we’ve endured this year, this is why.

As customary, the final race fixture of the season was held at Prudhoe, and with a bitterly cold wind making life tough for both competitors and spectators, it was left to Steve Cairns to bring a bit heat to the proceedings with an outstanding 1st place in the Men’s race. Steve was backed up with strong performances from the remaining pack of TBH men to ensure their league campaign ended on a happy note. In the ladies race Sophie Marr was the first finisher for the club, with the fifth fastest senior time of the day, and led home another strong pack of TBH ladies to consoldate their position in Division One. In the Under 13’s race Leodhais and Will Kerr both represented the club with distinction and will hopefully have several more team-mates to run alongside next season.

  1. Well done one and all – was a great day out today when I look back at as some of the gallows humour was fantastic in the cold winds of “P2” mountain or was it Mount Prudhomanjaro – some sparkling performances and not least from people standing in the cold cheering us on.

  2. I was missed out of the results linked here, finished 83rd. Amended resilts have now been produced.

  3. Well done to all who braved the arctic conditions on Saturday, not only those who ran but that brave band of supporters at the top of the hill!

I think everyone who turned out on Saturday receoved a shock on arriving at Prudhoe, twice up tthe hill for the women and three times for the men, There were quite a few “illuminating” adjectives flying around. before, during and after each race.

Hope the amended results show we have retained our mens 100% record

  4. As secretary of the NEHL in my first season I have to have an unbiased opinion. But I cant help being so proud of all the people who have represented this great running club over the last 6months. It has been a honour to for me to represent the club and it has been a joy to watch you all compete. A special mention must go to the women who in only their second full season came 4th overall in Div 1 credit to all the girls who turned out and credit to Denise who is a fantastic Womens Captain. Once again well done all.

    Micky
