The second running of Tyne Bridge Harriers Bridges of the Tyne 5 mile race takes place on Tuesday 9th July at 19:15.

Following the success of last years race we increased the number of places available by 100 and entries for the event still sold out within four weeks . For the first time this years race will be chip timed by Race Timing Systems.

Important Race Information

No doubt many of you will have taken part in this years Blaydon Race, the chip timing devices are exactly the same for this race. The chips will be in your race pack with your number, these are to be collected from the Tyne Bar from 17:30 on race day. The chips must be attached to your shoe in the way described, do not try to use them in any other way, this will result in your time not being correctly recorded.

Instructions – Fitting a looped shoe tag (pdf)

The start of the race is on the Newcastle Quayside approximately half a mile from the Race Registration. There is toilet provision at the Tyne Bar and portaloos near the finish area, there is also a modular public convenience on the Quayside. Please do not use the road from the Tyne Bar to the Quayside as a warm up area, the footpath on the riverside should be used for warm ups. The start area is the quite narrow and has been restricted by the Quayside Seaside planting boxes. The actual start is the Quayside footpath and does not include the road. No road closures are in order and we have no permission to use the road which will continue to be used by the Quaylink bus service, therefore runners should stay on the footpath. The chip timing mat will only be located on the footpath, if you elect to start on the road your time will not be recorded and you could be disqualified. As the race is chip timed you should only stand to the front of the start if you think you will finish in the top 25, your actual time will be taken from the time you cross the start line, there will be no detriment to your time starting further back in the field. Please take particular care of the the street furniture on the Quayside, these are potential hazards they will be taped but special care should be taken particularly at the start. Ipods and other electrical devices should not be worn.

The course is not closed and will be used by pedestrians and cyclists, we have no priority on the course. Tyne Bridge Harriers will have numerous marshals on course advising other users of the race. Please follow the marshals instructions at all times. The current weather forecast for Tuesday night suggests that it will be warm. Please ensure that you are sufficiently hydrated, there are no water stations on course. Water will be available to all runners at the end of the race.

After the race it is hoped that many of you will join us for the presentation of prizes which hopefully should be at approximately 8.45 pm. This will take place at the Tyne Bar Beer garden, where the specially brewed Tyne Bridge Harriers Ale and Tyne Bar Barbeque will be available again. Thanks again for entering and we hope you have a great race.

    • Hi Dave, yes, that’s correct. “The chips will be in your race pack with your number, these are to be collected from the Tyne Bar from 17:30 on race day”

  1. Hi. I wanted to enter tonight but was not sure if you had entries on the night. My friend ran but was not sure what time to pick up his number. Were the numbers not posted out? Thanks
