Many congratulations to all the competing members on a fabulous showing in this year’s Northern Athletics Road Relay Championships.
The event, this year held in Stanley Park, Blackpool, attracts the best clubs from the North of England and just taking part in the competition is a massive achievement. But thanks to fantastic performances from everyone who travelled on Saturday, both the Men and Ladies teams have qualified for the National finals.
In the ladies event, a four-strong team of Elspeth Lawson, Lizzy Clamp, Annette Kelly and Julie Shaw finished in a respectable 38th place and qualified automatically for the National finals.
To qualify from the men’s event, teams have to finish in the Top 25, and whereas the club had to rely on other teams results to qualify for the 2012 National finals, this year’s progress was never in doubt. The six-man team of Kevin Jeffress, Sparrow Morley, Shaun Brown, Darryl Davison, Jack Neeson and Keith Smith finished in 23rd place (out of 89 teams) and comfortably booked their place for next month’s finals in Sutton Park, Birmingham.
A special mention must go to Kenny Mac, John Hurse, Elliott Hails, Chris Graham and Paul Hilton who made the long journey to Blackpool to form an incomplete ‘B’ Team and offer great support to the their team-mates.
To round off a fantastic day for Tyne Bridge Harriers, the club were able to put out a junior team for the first time at a major championships, with Lucas Sutherland, Will Kerr and Leodhais making up an Under-13 team.
Again, many congratulations to everyone involved

Congrats everyone who raced- some fantastic results! What happened to the last man on the ‘B’ team? There is a guy in the middle of the photo above who is canny handy
Well done everyone!
Haha! We ladies automatically qualify for the Nationals?! We competed with the outlook that we were there mainly to proudly represent our club and that as long as we didn’t come last anything else was a bonus. Well we certainly didn’t come last AND we qualified (albeit automatically) for the Nationals…..double bonus! Great day out and it was a pleasure to be there to support our excellent mens team, well done guys, great achievement.
very well done everyone !! brilliant work!!
