A few months ago the lads and lasses of Newcastle University Triathlon Club took on the task of filling every volunteering role at Newcastle parkrun, and after doing such a terrific job an invite was sent out to local running/sports clubs to repeat the challenge.
First to accept were Heaton Harriers, but sadly the day of their event saw a heavy frost around the Town Moor and the run had to be cancelled (Heaton are scheduled to fulfil their roles on the 15th March). This meant the next club to take on the role of fulfilling every volunteering task (including a host of pacers) fell to Tyne Bridge Harriers.
Over 30 members volunteered their services, and as volunteer co-ordinator it was great to see every section of the club represented. We had runners from every training group (1 – 5), we had members who have been at the club for years and others who have only been there for a few months. And whilst several members had already volunteered at a parkrun event, for some this was their first ever time at helping out but I’m pleased (and mightily relieved ) to say everyone was magnificent and the day went off without a hitch.
As an added bonus, the volunteers were rewarded for their efforts with a batch of cakes thanks to Newcastle parkrun’s Phantom Cake Maker.
The only question now is, when do we do it again
More photographs from the event can be found here and a full list of volunteers can be found here.
(Thanks to Laura and Maggie D for the photographs).

I really enjoyed being a pacer, its the only race ive done with perfect splits. I dont like that picture tho note to self learn not to over stride an heal strike when sprinting!
