This week’s training sessions are;

Monday 4 May

Strength and Technical Session. 6:00pm at Warwick Street Track (Sandyford).

Highly recommended for all members to improve their running form and speed endurance.

Tuesday 5 May

TBH Summer Grand Prix: Race 2

For race 2 of the series we will be resuming the handicap system where competitors will be allocated a handicap based on their first GP performance or a recent 5k event.  Slower runners set off first followed by quicker runners at pre-set intervals.

The race will start at approximately 7:00pm.

Where is it?

This year’s Summer Grand Prix has been moved to Newcastle Town Moor.

The 2.25 mile course, consisting of one large lap and one small lap, takes place on the service road around the Moor (please note, the course will be open to the general public during the race and there are currently ground-works next to the start area).

MEMBERS TO GO DIRECT TO TOWN MOOR FOR REGISTRATION

DO NOT GO TO EAST END POOL.

Registration will take place between 6.15 – 6.45pm at the Model Boat Club (next to the lake in Exhibition Park).

There are several car parks nearby, including Claremont Road NE2 4AN, Brandling Park NE2 4RU and Forsyth Road NE2 3DA. Most are free after 6.00pm and are a short walk from the museum.

Chip Timing

We will be introducing chip timing for race 2, and if this proves to be a success we will retain the chip timing for the remainder of the series.  Chips will be attached to the back of race numbers, secured by a foam strip.

*** This means we need to issue new numbers to participants.  If you ran in GP1, you will need to be issued with a new chipped race number – do not bring your number from Race 1***

If this will be your first GP of the summer series, then you will also need to register to claim your chipped number.

Several timing mats will be positioned around the course and runners must ensure they cross the mats at each opportunity.

Who can take part?

The race is free to all members and runners wishing to try out a club session for the first time.
Points to Note – Feedback from GP1

Baggage – participants and marshalls may wish to leave their items in the boat hut which will be locked during the race.  Alternatively, please leave items at the FINISH area – do not leave them at the start line.

Changing – participants may use the boat hut for changing AFTER registration has closed.

Volunteering

In an effort to make things fairer for everybody at the club, members will again be asked to volunteer at least once during the current Series in order to participate in the following race series (the 2015/16 Winter Grand Prix).

Members who volunteer at an event will be awarded 100 points.

As a precaution we will still be looking for timers and recorders for this event, so please look to fill these positions as well as all others.  If you would like to volunteer, please get in touch with either Cath Eaton or David Daniels.

This session is for anyone who is completely new to running and who would like to experience the benefits and enjoyment of this leisure activity.  It will not involve speed work and will purely be about getting into the sport and experiencing the benefits of doing so with the support of a running club. Runners may then choose to progress into the Tuesday/Thursday sessions for more structured training if they wish to do so.
