Bored of traipsing along the same old pavements?
Feel let-down running around a farmer’s field masquerading as a cross-country course?
What you need is a good dose of Fell Running!
The list of races for the 2016 North East Fell Running Championship has just been announced.
Date | Event | Other |
Sun 20 March | Blakey Blitz | Organised by Esk Valley |
Sat 9 April | Allendale Challenge | Entries open on SiEntries |
Sat 4 June | Allendale Fair | Replaces the Allendale 8 road race |
Tues 5 July | Saltwell | NEMAA Championships (tbc) |
Wed 31 August | Roseberry Topping | Organised by National Trust |
Sun 4 December | Eskdale Eureka | See Esk Valley website for details |
There is one more race “in the pipeline” which will be a new race, if the required permissions can be secured. But rather than wait for this to be confirmed, which could take a few weeks, the 6 definite races have been announced so that folks can get their year ahead organised! If it does not go ahead, then another race will be added. It will be after Blakey Blitz and Allendale Challenge, though so should allow plenty of notice. It will also not be a long race!
The rules remain the same which is basically that you have to be born or resident within the NE Counties to qualify for points in the Champs and it’s any 4 from 7 to count towards your score. Any ladies 60+ or men 70+ only need 3 races to count and should not feel obliged to attempt the Allendale Challenge!
Further details of most of the races are in the Fell Runners Association (FRA) handbook which is available to FRA members or on the FRA website. Also check out the relevant organising Club’s website and the Northumberland Fell Runners website which has a useful “What’s On” page.
The championship is a great way to get into fell running and it would be fantastic to see TBH represented during this years races – and hopefully in the medal winning positions at the end of the year.
If you have any queries, the club’s fell running maestro John Tollitt will be only too happy to help you.
