The decision to select July’s MotM was so difficult that for the first time in the awards history the club committee have decided to have co-winners; so congratulations to David Hartis and Yamuna Thiru
The progress shown by David over the past few months has been a joy to behold, recording Personal Bests (PB’s) in road & track events and making his way up the ranks in Group 2 (surely soon to be a Gp 1 regular). During July, David ran PB’s in the Sunderland 5K, Gateshead 10K and was a member of the V35 men’s team that set a new 4 x 400m club record.
Aside from concentrating on his own running performance, David has also gone out of his way of late to help several club members who are currently training for autumn marathon events, and his efforts are greatly appreciated by everyone concerned.
It’s fair to say Yam has struggled over the past year or so with various issues but she has shown huge resilience to keep plugging away and has recently returned to training with group 3. No matter how things are for her she always shows a lot of care and interest in others. It’s the view of the Committee that MotM isn’t always about prize winning performances and PBs but for those who keep trying when the going gets tough and act as an inspiration to others.
