November’s Member of the Month: Gill Parkin!

Gill set a new V60 club record, as well as a PB at Brampton to Carlisle 10 miler! She regularly attends group 4 club sessions and is a familiar friendly face at the club!

A recent experience with the club:
As a keen TBH member on tour abroad, I have had another great experience at Frankfurt half marathon 2025. I must say, they know how to organise it well! Less hassle generally at the start line and good transport systems to enable you to arrive at the race stress free.
Mind there are never enough loos , that’s the only moan, but there were nearby woods!
The Nidda Parkrun on the Saturday was fun and an example of how friendly theses events are . To our delight, as it was so cold, we had coffee, cake and chocolates at the end of the run!

Another highlight of the TBH trips was Palma half marathon 2023, when several of us ended up in the local Spanish newspaper. Despite flash floods and hence a race delay, it was a good experience. All adds to pre-race nerves!

What is your main training goal at the moment
Presently I am training for the London Marathon, 6 weeks to go! Now that was a surprise email: Gillian You Are In!
I never thought I would be successful in the ballot (840,000 applicants ). So there’s a lesson, apply if you fancy, you never know your luck .
At the moment I am training week to week and hoping to stay fit.

What is one of your favourite things about being a member of TBH?
The Sunday Social Club Run is a great opportunity for all. You have company for 10 miles, if you choose as I do, to run at a conversational pace and you can add to the mileage if you wish. WIN WIN!!

Favourite song to listen to whilst running?
I never have ran to music, I like to be able to hear around me, especially the birds at this time of the year.

What is your ideal pre-race snack/breakfast?
I now have porridge oats with peanut butter and honey pre-long run, which works well for me.

Thoughts on Parkrun?
I am a parkrun fan and enjoy parkrun tourism . A highlight for me was a family trip to Krakow including the Zielony Jar Parkrun.
A first in the fact the volunteers clapped us after each lap
A first in the fact we took a taxi to the start ha ha (it was a distance from the center)
And a first on the wildlife watch; Chris reckons he saw a red squirrel whilst running in the park! A memorable morning.

Any more comments?
TBH is a great club to be part of. I have made some good friendships over the years . Yes it is transient, it’s encouraging and inclusive to all.
Kevin Cheetham must get a mention as being an inspiration to me at the club. His encouragement and banter keeps me smiling on some days when I’m not in the zone.

I am chuffed to have been given November’s Member of the Month 2024 , so thanks to those that nominated me. I am also pleased to be ticking off a few V60 club records recently!
