Terry O’Gara, the Chairman of Wallsend Harriers sadly passed away on Sunday 22nd January following a short illness. He passed peacefully in the company of his family.
The 30th Brass Monkey Half Marathon began at the very impressive venue of York Race-course. I’ve rarely seen such a splendid Race Headquarters. In fact almost everything about this event was first class. The officials and staff knew exactly how to help, from the baggage area to the marshalling of the race.
Despite the awful weather conditions, there was a great turnout of Tyne Bridger’s at the 105th Newcastle parkrun event (with half a dozen more members helping out with volunteering duties). And the club were awarded by their endeavours with Sparrow Morley, and latest recruit, Jordan Mullinger, finishing first in the male and female categories respectively.

Tyne Bridge Harrier Mark Allison is preparing to take on another fantastic challenge & journey in 2013 as he runs across Australia in aid of St Benedict’s Hospice and The Children’s Foundation. Yesterday, Mark was cooking up other plans.. plans of nutrition & of course fundraising !!
Although this weekend is a busy one with the Durham Cathedral XC Relays and the Brass Monkey Half marathon taking place. Coach Dave Anderson is still running a track session at Churchill Track on Saturday 21st January as normal for those who wish to attend.

Tyne Bridge Harriers are about to launch the very first issue of their own magazine. RUN:TBH will be a 3,000-print run magazine, published three times a year, with a first issue appearing in February 2012 following the club’s 1st anniversary.
Tuesday 17th January is the fourth race in the Tyne Bridge Harriers Winter GP series. An exact 5K looped course of Newcastle Quayside, taking in crossings of both the Swing Bridge and the Millennium Bridge.

Deka and I have just returned from our trip to Vietnam. We were hoping to run out there but having looked on You Tube before we went, there are almost 3 million motorbikes in Hanoi, the capital, and there are few traffic lights or road lanes. Walking across the road would prove difficult, never mind running. Anyway a bit more research online I came across the Hanoi Hash House Harriers.

The Run For Bob is an annual charity run organised by the members of our friends at North Shields Poly. The run is in memory of late NSP member and runner Bob Peart who was one of the North-East’s top veteran athletes, who sadly died of cancer in 2001.
